New block print art cards have arrived from the Arts and Crafts Press! We've added several new images of these lovely cards. Each color is separately printed on linoleum/wood blocks using acid- free paper and soy-based inks. A nice price at 3 dollars each. It's Art Fair Time - hot weather, thunderstorms and art. We just finished mounting 100 posters for the AASAF merchandise booth from this years featured artist Mark Traughber. Based in Pittsburgh, PA, Mark is the Ann Arbor Street Art Fair's 2010 Featured Artist. Mark studied Sociology and Studio Art at Western Kentucky University, and he combines these two fields of study in his drawings by exploring the way that personal identity operates within social and cultural systems.
As this year's Featured Artist, Mark's original artwork will be featured on all Street Art Fair souvenirs including t-shirts, bags and ball caps, as well as the official 2010 poster:
ON HIS POSTER DESIGN:
"The artwork for the poster design is a mixed media piece incorporating drawing, painting and image transfer. The rabbit is an image that has appeared frequently in my work, as it is of a doll from my childhood. In creating the poster design, I wanted to use elements and imagery that were fairly representative of my artwork in general, and that had a strong and attractive graphic presence. Plus I just thought it would be cool to have my rabbit put on a poster."

Our friends from the Weisenreder Farms have returned with local sweet corn, tomatoes and melons. Local eating doesn't get much more delicious than the Weisenreder's sweet corn. Look for the corn cart daily in our parking lot and check out Slow Food of Huron Valley for more information about eating locally.

Circle of Art was a great success surpassing previous years. Close to 20k was raised to benefit our friends at Food Gatherers in their fight against hunger where we live.

Here it is! Keith McGuire, dedicated Circle of Art volunteer, has outdone himself with this years' poster art. Flying carrots! How cool is that? Look for the poster all over town in about a week or so. Note the message "Join Us". We need as much help as we can to make this years' Circle of Art a success. Check out the art coming in and get the bidding started, donate a small work of art, stop in and pick up a poster or some cards to help spread the word. Food Gatherers is facing unprecedented needs and shrinking resources - let's help them out.

Marty is a popular local Artist. Her favorite mediums are pastels and colored pencils. Mostly because they are simple to use, easily portable and provide a huge color pallet. She strives to make her work lively by employing a wide value range, from light to dark, and by using a lot of colors expressively. You can also see her work at The Side Door Gallery as a part of the Whitmore Lake Portrait Groups' exhibit which runs until April 10th.

Mark Orr ~ Raven on a White Chair
Mark Orr is a favorite local Artist and a returning Circle contributor. His sculptural carved ravens represent the "scavenger" or "gatherer" with each piece containing unique and interesting found objects from the past. Additional pieces can be seen at The Side Door Gallery or at scavengerart.com.
